Descendants and Ancestors of Henry Reynolds Arnold
Tuesday, August 26, 2003
Hi! I'm The GGGrandson of Henry Reynolds Arnold. He was married to Sallie Banta Arnold in Kentucky. They moved, with their children to Indiana in 1851.Henry was born in 1816 died in 1869. I have been searching for his father for well on to 20 years or more. Some success, but nothing I can prove or be sure of. Still I have learned a lot of Kentucky and Indiana history. I have seen a lot of both places. I have learned a lot of history.
Not just family history but the history of the times. I learned that in Kentucky in around 1837 there was a revival that may have included 37,000 people in a WoodStock type meeting. I learned that six preachers were involved and a few religions had their start soon afterwards as a result. (Such as the Disciples of Christ).
I learned whom the Shakers were, and that the Banta family (Sallie Banta's) were Shakers in Kentucky. Somehow I think if I could understand what was happening at that period of history I could understand why Henry left Kentucky for Indiana.

Did it have anything to do with the new statehood of Indiana? Did the bill of rights in the Indiana constitution with the right to freedom of religion draw Sallie and Henry to Putman County Indiana? Or was it the relatives already there and the price of land?

Henry and Sallie were farmers. They farmed in Kentucky in Bourbon County next to Sallie's brother Henry Banta. Their farm in Indiana was the site of the first family reunion with the Missouri cousins in 1889. It was suppose to be the site of the reunion on James (Jim ) Henry Arnold's 100th birthday. But Jim died a few months before. Then the reunion was moved to Greencastle and held in a park.

This is all from memory and my first BLOG post so I will probably edit it when I can put in more detail. -DAN-
